How to Install the Smart Bird Feeder Camera?

Installing a smart bird feeder camera is a relatively simple process that can be done in just a few simple steps.

Step 1: Choose the right spot for your bird feeder camera

Make sure to put the bird feeder camera in a location where you have a clear view of the birds that visit and where it won’t be knocked over by curious animals. Also, you should consider the position of the sun throughout the day. Place it in a sunny spot to ensure the camera stays powered at all times, but don’t let the sun shine directly into the camera lens, which may result in washed-out footage. Additionally, stay away from any obstructions that could block the camera’s view, such as branches or leaves.

Step 2: Install the mounting bracket or strap

Once you have chosen the perfect spot for your bird feeder camera, it’s time to secure it in place. Most smart bird feeder cameras come with a bracket or mounting strap that can be easily attached to a post, tree or railing. Make sure to securely attach the bracket to prevent the camera from falling or shifting and adjust the angle as needed to capture the best view.

Step 3: Set up the smart bird feeder camera

First, you need to insert a memory card into the camera (built-in 64GB SD card) before powering it up. Most smart bird feeder cameras are designed to be powered by solar energy and rechargeable batteries. It’s a good idea to fully charge the batteries before installing the camera to avoid any downtime.

To access the live feed from your bird feeder camera, you also need to download our official Green Backyard app on your smartphone or tablet. Register an account, log into the app, and click the “+” button to add the device. In the next step, select “WiFi Camera”, power on the camera as instructed, wait until your camera says “start quick config.”, and select “next”. In the next step, you’ll be required to enter the credentials of your home router. And then, the app will display a QR code to you. Press and hold the reset button on the camera for 5 seconds, point the camera 15~20cm away from the QR code (directly facing the screen), and wait for the connection to be established.

Once connected, you’ll find the smart bird feeder camera on the homepage. You can then adjust the camera’s settings, such as resolution, night vision, motion sensitivity and recording schedules. You can also set up alerts or notifications when the camera detects movement or activity at your bird feeder.

Step 4: Test the smart bird feeder camera

After the setup, it’s important to make sure everything is working properly. Check the camera’s view to ensure it is capturing the desired angle and adjust as needed. Test the camera’s motion detection feature by walking in front of the camera to see if it triggers any alerts or recordings.

Step 5: Enjoy watching the feeding birds

Now that your smart bird feeder camera is set up and working correctly, it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching the birds that frequent your backyard. Whether you’re capturing a glimpse of a colorful cardinal or a chatty bluejay, this smart bird feeder camera is sure to brighten your day with rare bird sightings!

Other Considerations

Here are some installation tips for installing a smart bird feeder camera:

  • Privacy Concerns: Be mindful of privacy especially if your bird feeder camera is installed in a public or shared space. Ensure that your WiFi network is secure with a strong password and consider two-factor authentication.
  • Weather Protection: While most bird feeder cameras are waterproof, providing additional weather protection can prolong their lifespan. Consider installing a rain guard or shelter above the feeder to protect it from rain, snow or direct sunlight.
  • Regular Maintenance: Clean the camera lens and housing periodically to remove dirt, dust, and debris that can affect image quality. Inspect the feeder for any signs of wear or damage and replace any worn parts as needed.
  • Bird-Friendly Environment: Create a bird-friendly backyard by planting native vegetation and providing sources of water such as birdbaths or shallow dishes. Avoid using pesticides and chemicals in your yard, as they can harm birds and their food sources.
