How to connect bird box camera to Synology NAS station

Synology NAS is the online driver for data storage which is designed to provide a solution of file storage and sharing in your home or commercial environment. The good thing is the Synology NAS has web-based operation system (DSM) built-in which can be accessed directly by Mac and other OS and Synology NAS has default plugins which can take in the IP based bird box camera. There is workarounds to view the bird box camera on the Mac or cross platform without installing any software on your computer.

1. First, go to the “package Center” and install “Surveillance Station”.

2. Next click “Surveillance station”. In the new page, click IP camera icon.

3. Now Click the “Add camera” on the top left corner.

4. In the next screen, Choose “Complete Setup”, you will be directed to new screen. Now name your camera, put in camera’s IP address, port: 8899, username: admin, password.


If you camera doesn’t support Onvif protocols, Choose {User Define} On the Brand. Next input the below RTSP command.

Example: rtsp://10.6.10.6:554/user=admin&password=&channel=1&stream=0.sdp?real_stream (Replace the IP address to your camera and add the password field. The default password of camera is empty)

5. Click Next load the camera parameter. Now go back to Surveillance station and Click “Live view”, you should start seeing the live video from the camera in a seconds.
